Buggy-friendly parkrun Dublin – Ardgillan

Tried and tested by Aoife @familywalksire (IG & Twitter)

Buggy Friendly rating: 5/10

Scenery: 9/10

This was my first ever parkrun which I completed in January 2016. Ardgillan parkrun starts behind the castle (beside the toilets). The run takes you through mainly forest trail (which requires a sturdy buggy) but also some very stoney/bumpy paths which I didn’t feel were very buggy-friendly but I certainly got a great workout! The kiddies seem to enjoy it at the time too!

The final stretch takes you up a steep hill (which feels like Mount Everest when pushing a double buggy). Needless to say the encouragement from the wonderful volunteers and fellow runners is so uplifting especially just when you need it. Even though I completed this course a few years ago I’ll never forget the feeling of finishing it and experiencing all the positivity and community spirit that surrounds Parkrun events.

Facilities, cafes and playgrounds:

There’s a cafe in the castle, an amazing playground, a fairy trail and walled gardens on the grounds also. Needless to say Argillan is such a beautiful place to explore with stunning views over Skerries and Balbriggan.

Such an uplifting experience. Not sure I’d recommend it for buggies(depending on how sturdy your buggy is of course). Perhaps best to walk this one with a buggy but would love to hear from anyone else who’s done it with a buggy, especially more recently than me.

  1. Hi aoife

I do ardgillan park run most saturdays with my little girl in running buggy. I love the course it’s very tough but very enjoyable at same time . It’s quite Stoney alright but think that’s what makes it. See you for race off up there soon 😎Cian Cusack

  2. Hi Ye
Lovely Few words about Argillian parkrun. I run it when I can with our Out N About double Buggy. Was pushing My two Boys Finn 6 (21kgs)And Darragh 3 (17kgs) around since we moved to Skerries 2.5years ago.
Got the some KOM on Strava going down two of the steepest Downhills.😆.
Have destroyed a few tires cornering over the years. Can hold our own on the flats, but loose a lot of time on hills. There are what they are and make Argillian a good challenge. Finn our oldest is running it now himself as our Newest lightest Little Fellow Rian 8kgs & 8 months taking his spot in buggy. Taking it easy going Along course as Rian would get bounced around in Buggy. Do it in 23 to 25 mins. Going solo only do Argillian in 21mins. Wife back running it with Finn aged 6 in 37 to 40mins. Very prions of him, but no pressure. No keeping with him on hills been so light. Know everyone running it and all enjoy a coffee and treats in Argillian after and a walk around Rose and walled Gardens, through Woods and playground after. Spend most of Sat into afternoon before be head home. Kids GAA catching us over the school Terms. But cannot wait return on the summer and schools breaks. Most lovely bunch of people there every week and great support to each other. Best buddies. Everyone always has a smile. It’s a quite, peaceful and tranquil oasis North County Dublin. Very child friendly and Safe. Am injured due to
Operation few weeks ago, and lucky to compleat 5km in 50mins at moment. Buts it’s a blessing to be out in the fresh Air and be able complete 5km in any time. So I take my hat off to anyone how gets out there. All those Mums or Dads with or without Kids. Great way to start weekend.

    • Hi Oisín, what a great response, so lovely to hear others experiences and perseversance with worn tyres and all! It’s a pretty special spot alright. It certainly is a great way to start the weekend. Maybe see you there some day (when I’m back up to the ole 5k again)
